Health and Safety Manager

Influence the Culture. Own the Safety Agenda.
You’re not looking for a role where health and safety means sitting behind a desk, updating policies and telling people what they can’t do.
You want to be visible, influence how people think and create a safety culture that works because people understand it, believe in it and take ownership of it.
This is a Health and Safety Manager role within a growing packaging manufacturer near Ely, offering real autonomy, strong leadership support and the opportunity to put your stamp on a growing business.
You’ll take ownership of the site safety agenda, working in a hands-on and visible way across the factory. The fundamentals are in place, but there is still plenty of opportunity to strengthen standards, improve engagement and challenge some of the traditional “we’ve always done it this way” thinking.
Workplace transport, machinery safety including safe isolation, critical risk analysis, PUWER, risk assessments and safe systems of work will all form part of your remit, but the biggest opportunity is around people.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You’ll work closely with operators, engineers and the wider leadership team to make health and safety more engaging, more visible and more embedded into everyday decision-making.
You won’t be expected to come in and simply enforce rules. You would influence, challenge and educate, helping people understand the reason behind safe ways of working and bringing them with you rather than relying on regulation alone.
You’ll also have the freedom to introduce new ideas and shape the future safety agenda, with support from the wider Group Health and Safety function when needed.
The Operation at a Glance
This growing packaging manufacturer operates as part of a much larger group, and are one of the major players within it.
The business continues to receive major investments including a recent new site move which will enable further growth but equally a better working environment for the team.
What You’ll Bring
To succeed, you’ll already have practical Health and Safety experience within a manufacturing or processing environment. That could come from packaging, food, industrial manufacturing or another process-led operation.

Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
You’ll have strong practical capability across areas such as risk assessments, safe systems of work, root cause analysis, workplace transport, machinery safety, PUWER and incident investigation.
IOSH would be the minimum requirement, with NEBOSH advantageous, although practical experience and evidence of improving standards will carry more weight than qualifications alone.
Above all, you’ll be someone who can communicate at every level. You’ll be equally comfortable engaging with someone on the factory floor as you are discussing an issue with senior leadership, and you’ll know how to challenge people without becoming overly authoritarian.
