Health and Safety Manager
Location: Dumfries (Lodging Available)
Salary: £68,000 - £75,000
We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join a major infrastructure project based in Dumfries. This is a key site leadership role, responsible for providing both strategic and operational Health and Safety support across a complex programme of civil engineering, electrical infrastructure and construction works.
The successful candidate will work closely with project leadership, construction teams, subcontractors and client stakeholders to strengthen the safety culture, ensure compliance and support the safe delivery of the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and promote a proactive Health and Safety culture across the project.
- Ensure compliance with current Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and company standards.
- Provide expert Health and Safety advice to project managers, supervisors and operational teams.
- Develop, implement and regularly review Health and Safety management systems, procedures and project-specific plans.
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits and assurance activities, ensuring actions are tracked and closed.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure alignment with project requirements and standards.
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations, identify root causes and implement robust corrective and preventive actions.
- Deliver clear and engaging Health and Safety briefings, inductions, training and awareness sessions.
- Produce and present Health and Safety performance reports and KPI data to senior stakeholders, highlighting trends and areas for improvement.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote best practice across the project.

- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 Health and Safety qualification.
- GradIOSH, CMIOSH or equivalent professional membership (or working towards).
- Significant experience within major construction, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations and UK Health and Safety legislation.
- Proven experience working with Principal Contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Demonstrable experience in auditing, incident investigation and risk management.
- Ability to positively influence and, where necessary, challenge stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent communication, coaching and presentation skills.
- Self-motivated, organised and able to work independently while contributing effectively to the wider project team.
