Contract Health and Safety Manager
Ready to lead the safety values and agenda across a national transport operation, influencing over 300 colleagues and driving meaningful change across multi-sites? Do you have Health and Safety Manager leadership, commercial awareness and HSEQ expertise to shape a world-class safety culture while partnering with senior leaders to improve performance, reduce risk and protect our people?
Here at GXO, we're looking for an experienced and influential Contract Health and Safety Manager to lead the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality strategy across our Marshalls and Marley transport contracts. Operating nationally across multi sites and supporting around 300 colleagues, you'll play a pivotal role in driving safety performance, reducing operational risk and embedding a positive safety culture throughout the organisation. Working closely with senior operational leaders, you'll provide visible leadership, strengthen compliance and governance, and deliver continuous improvement initiatives that support operational excellence, customer satisfaction and long-term business success.
Pay, benefits and more
We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £56,000 per annum (dependent on level of experience) + jobs need car, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). What you’ll do on a typical day
- Lead the HSEQ strategy across multiple transport sites, partnering with senior operational leaders to drive compliance, continuous improvement and a strong safety culture
- Drive safety performance and risk management, reducing incidents through proactive audits, inspections, risk assessments and operational improvement plans
- Lead incident investigations, ensuring robust root cause analysis, effective corrective actions and the sharing of best practice across the network
- Strengthen compliance and governance, overseeing audits, regulatory requirements, customer standards and assurance activities to maintain operational excellence
- Develop capability and influence stakeholders, coaching leaders, leading safety engagement initiatives and using data-driven insights to improve HSEQ performance across the business

What you need to succeed at GXO
- An experienced HSEQ leader with a proven track record in transport, logistics or other complex operational environments, influencing safety performance across multi-site operations
- Strong technical expertise in UK health and safety legislation, risk management, incident investigation and compliance improvement, with the ability to drive sustainable business change (NEBOSH General Certificate essential)
- A strategic influencer and relationship builder, confident engaging with senior leaders, customers, operational teams and trade union representatives to deliver positive outcomes
- Data-driven and improvement-focused, with strong analytical skills and experience using insights to identify trends, reduce risk and enhance operational performance
- A visible and credible leader, passionate about developing positive safety cultures, coaching others, driving accountability and leading behavioural safety initiatives
