About the Company
Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be supporting a leading educational organisation with the appointment of a Health & Safety Officer to cover maternity leave (12 months)
About the Role
This is a broad and varied role, providing professional health, safety and risk management support across the organisation. You will work closely with managers, staff, students, contractors and senior stakeholders to promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with current legislation. Reporting to the Director of Estates & Resources, the Health & Safety Officer will take a proactive role in managing and monitoring health, safety and risk activities across the organisation.
Responsibilities
- Providing professional advice and guidance on health, safety and risk management
- Undertaking regular health & safety audits and inspections across the estate
- Developing, reviewing and implementing health & safety policies, procedures and guidance
- Supporting managers with risk assessments and appropriate control measures
- Investigating accidents and incidents and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented
- Managing RIDDOR reporting where required
- Leading on fire risk assessments, fire safety and evacuation drills
- Maintaining compliance across COSHH, asbestos, legionella, PPE and first aid
- Managing contractor health & safety, including reviewing RAMS and monitoring contractor performance
- Coordinating safety testing programmes including PAT testing and environmental safety checks
- Delivering health & safety inductions, training and awareness sessions
- Monitoring actions arising from internal and external audits
- Maintaining accurate health & safety records and compliance documentation
- Supporting occupational health and workplace adjustment requirements alongside HR
- Providing reports and expert advice to senior management and the Health & Safety Committee
- Promoting a positive health, safety and risk management culture across the organisation

NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent
Required Skills
- Experience working in a broad health & safety role
- Strong knowledge of UK health & safety legislation
- Experience undertaking audits, inspections and risk assessments
- Experience with accident and incident investigation
- Knowledge of fire safety, COSHH, asbestos and legionella management
- Experience managing contractors and reviewing RAMS
