Foundation apprenticeships are introductory courses that help young people get started in an industry. You do not need to have any specific qualifications or experience to apply.
Anyone between 16 and 21 can start a foundation apprenticeship. If you're between 22 and 24, you can start if you: have an EHC plan are in care or have been in care are in prison or have been in prison
You will be supporting adults with learning and/ or physical disabilities to live the lives they choose based on what they need and what is important to them. This covers lots of things such as assisting people with their personal hygiene, washing, dressing, and meals; through to helping people do whatever they choose to do in a day.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
Requirements
- Patience and resilience
- Willingness to work long and unpredictable shifts (evenings, weekends, overnight)
- Ability to stay calm, kind, and professional
- Willingness to participate in a wide range of activities
- Ability to support individuals with personal care, cleaning, or medical appointments
- Ability to support individuals with social and active lifestyles
- Willingness to support individuals with personal interests and choices, even if they are outside your own preferences
- Obtain Functional Skills in English and Maths (if you don't already have GCSE or equivalents)

Responsibilities
- Deliver excellent, safe, personal, respectful, and dignified care and support.
- Provide excellent quality personal care, including hygiene, washing, dressing, and oral/nail care.
- Manage medication according to individual needs (right medication, dose, and time).
- Prepare meals and assist with eating, considering dietary requirements.
- Assist with household tasks: cleaning, laundry, ironing, shopping.
- Support individuals to have social and active lifestyles based on their choices.
- Provide companionship to reduce isolation.
- Collaborate with Support Officers to plan and review care and support needs.
- Record care and support provided, feedback, and important information.
- Report and record any concerns about an individual's well-being.
- Support individuals to engage in meaningful and enjoyable activities based on their interests and choices.

What your apprenticeship includes
- Work-based training with face-to-face sessions and remote Team calls with a Lifetime Learner Coach every 6 weeks.
- A mentor within the workplace for support.
- Reviews every 12 weeks with the Apprentice, Line Manager, and Lifetime Learner Coach, including feedback sessions.
- Working towards a Health and Social Care Foundation Apprenticeship L2 Qualification over 8 months.
