Location: Birmingham with travel to Employer sites in Birmingham
Pay: £375 per learner, with an allocated caseload of 40 learners
Contract: Full-time
About The Role
Pathway Group is recruiting a Health and Social Care Tutor / Assessor to deliver the Highfield Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate to care workers across the West Midlands.
You will support learners working in domiciliary care, residential care homes and other adult care settings. Managing an allocated caseload of 40 learners, you will guide them from initial assessment through to completion, combining engaging teaching with practical workplace assessment.
We are looking for someone who understands everyday care practice, explains concepts clearly and works proactively with learners and employers to maintain progress.
What you will teach
You will teach core adult care topics, including person-centred care, communication, dignity, privacy, equality and inclusion. Delivery will also cover the care worker’s role, personal development, duty of care, safeguarding, consent and mental capacity.
Other areas include mental health, dementia, learning disability and autism awareness, nutrition and hydration, health and safety, infection prevention and control, basic life support requirements, and handling information.

Your teaching should connect these subjects to learners’ daily responsibilities, using practical examples that help them apply their learning at work.
Your responsibilities
- Plan and deliver individual and small-group learning sessions
- Assess learners’ starting points and agree clear learning and assessment plans
- Visit employer sites to carry out workplace observations, assess written work and professional discussions, and provide constructive feedback against the qualification criteria
- Maintain accurate learner portfolios and assessment records using Vault
- Monitor progress and intervene where learners fall behind
- Working closely with care managers, arrange observations and reviews around service needs while keeping learners on track for completion
- Adapt your teaching to meet different learning needs
- Participate in standardisation meetings and work with the Internal Quality Assurer to maintain assessment quality
- Keep your adult care knowledge and professional development up to date
Essential Experience And Qualifications
- Relevant occupational experience in adult social care, such as domiciliary care, residential care, supported living or adult care management, alongside experience assessing vocational care qualifications and conducting workplace observations
- Hold a recognised assessor qualification, such as CAVA, A1 or D32/D33, or an equivalent covering workplace competence assessment
- A recognised teaching or training qualification, such as AET, PTLLS, CET, DET, CertEd or PGCE, is also required
- Confident supporting learners with different abilities and levels of experience
- Managing your own caseload and maintaining accurate records
- Able and willing to travel to employer sites in Birmingham and surrounding areas

Desirable experience
- Experience delivering the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate or Level 2 and Level 3 adult care diplomas or apprenticeships would be advantageous
- Familiarity with Highfield qualifications, Vault or similar electronic portfolio systems is desirable
- IQA qualification or experience supporting internal quality assurance
