Healthcare Assistant – New Spenser Ward, St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Assistant to join New Spenser Ward, a 20-bedded acute inpatient assessment unit for older adults based at St Peter’s Hospital Campus, Chertsey.
New Spenser Ward is a busy and rewarding environment where our friendly, supportive multidisciplinary team is committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care. We provide holistic assessment, treatment and support for older adults experiencing functional mental health illnesses, helping them achieve the best possible outcomes.
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring that service user's needs are met.
We are looking for a compassionate, motivated and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills, a flexible approach to work, and a genuine passion for caring for older adults. You will be an effective team player who is committed to delivering outstanding care and supporting the achievement of ward and organisational objectives.
The successful candidate will participate in team meetings, training and development opportunities, and ongoing learning activities to ensure their skills and knowledge remain up to date. In return, you will be supported by an experienced and welcoming team and have the opportunity to develop your career within a specialist older adults’ mental health service.

- To provide care for people who use our services as planned in Multi – disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings
- To be aware of and work to the principles of the Mental Health Act (MHA)
- To give and receive clear messages by telephone and or personal contact
- To provide the necessary physical care to people who use our services to help them complete daily living activities i.e. personal hygiene, diet and fluid intake, clothing and laundry, personal environment, elimination, maintaining rest and sleep and activity, physical observations
- To contribute in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluating care
- To create and maintain professional supportive relationships with all members of staff with other professionals and agencies to enhance recovery
- To provide escort duties to people who use our services under the direction of the nurse in charge.
