NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

We are looking for a motivated and caring Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker to join the Surgical Assessment Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced environment caring for patients undergoing surgical investigations, assessment, treatment, and management.

As part of the team you will support the registered nurse in delivering high quality patient care. You will assist with patient vital signs, being familiar with NEWS 2, performing 12 lead ECGs, urinalysis, microbiology samples, and report findings to the registered nurse. Venepuncture/cannulation skills are also essential to this role as Band 3 healthcare support worker.

In this role, you will support the nursing team with delivering patient care, assisting with daily activities, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and ensuring patients are always treated with dignity and respect. Previous care experience is essential, along with good communication skills and a compassionate approach.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be determined on a case-by-case basis following interview and during the pre-employment verification process. Applicants must state their current right to work in their application.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.

Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.

Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
