Health Community Engagement Manager (Talk Cancer)
Salary: £46,000-£49,000 per annum pro rata
Reports to: Senior Health Community Engagement Manager (Talk Cancer)
Department: Policy, Information and Communications
Contract length: Fixed term, 12 months
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Stratford, London w/ high-flex (1 – 2 days per week in the office).
We are open to flexible working requests for this role.

Are you looking to stretch your project management skills? Are you interested in helping CRUK tackle health inequalities? This is an exciting 12-month FTC opportunity to join the Health Community Engagement team (HCE) in a pivotal role within the Talk Cancer Programme.
About the Role
Talk Cancer is Cancer Research UK’s cancer awareness training programme. Informed by the most up-to-date health information and delivered by expert nurses, our training gives people the knowledge and confidence to speak with others in their community about reducing cancer risk and spotting cancer early. By equipping our trainees with the skills to have conversations and share simple messages, Talk Cancer can enable positive changes that can save lives.

What will I be doing?
- Leading on the day-to-day management of Talk Cancer training workshops to ensure the effective delivery and evaluation
- Representing Talk Cancer internally and externally – acting as the key point of contact with external partner organisations and key internal teams that support the delivery of our work
- Task managing the HCE Officer (alongside colleagues in the Cancer Awareness Roadshow team) and working closely with Talk Cancer’s Senior Officer and the nurse trainers to maintain a whole programme view of our activities and ensuring effective cross-team coordination
- Spotting strategic opportunities and driving improvements to the programme
- Supporting the Senior Manager of Talk Cancer to ensure the team is on track to deliver our key KPIs as well as supporting on operational planning and budget management
- Leading on Talk Cancer’s evaluation processes – ensuring effective reporting of the programme’s impact, for use internally and with external partner organisations.
- Project managing the team’s annual resource review (ensuring programme materials are updated in line with any changes to CRUK’s health information).
What skills are you looking for?
- Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, balance long-term projects with reactive demands, and deliver results through others.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills – ability to build strong, effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, at all levels.
- Strategic thinker – with an ability to spot opportunities and grow the impact of the programme in line with organisational priorities.
- Strong analytic skills with an understanding of evaluation and research methods – needed for effective data management, analysis & reporting.
- Shows initiative and leadership – helping to drive improvements in the programme, and to effectively task manage the HCE Officer.
- Strong communication skills – both written and verbal, to facilitate fluid collaboration across the team and with key stakeholders.
- Interest in health promotion, cancer, and tackling health inequalities.
- Understanding of key compliance obligations, including health and safety, safeguarding and data protection.
