Health Data Strategy Lead

Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health Data Strategy Lead to join a leading organisation focused on advancing science and health research. This is a strategic role focused on understanding the UK health data landscape, identifying emerging opportunities, and using this insight to help shape future funding and investment decisions. This is not a Data Architect role. The position is focused on health data strategy, research infrastructure, data linkage, and identifying where investment can have the greatest impact across healthcare and scientific research.
Role and Responsibilities
- Develop a strategic view of the UK health data landscape, including key organisations, initiatives, infrastructure, and emerging trends
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for investment across health data, data linkage, digital infrastructure, and research technology
- Use evidence, market insight, and domain expertise to help shape future funding priorities
- Review existing funded programmes to identify gaps, opportunities, and areas for greater impact
- Lead landscape reviews, funding calls, RFPs, and investment proposals
- Build relationships with senior stakeholders across healthcare, academia, research organisations, government, and other funders
- Represent the organisation externally across major UK health data initiatives and forums
- Provide strategic advice on health data and digital technology initiatives
- Assess technical and research proposals and support investment decisions
- Help develop a coherent portfolio of investments across health data and digital research infrastructure

- Strong knowledge of the UK health data landscape
- Experience working with health, scientific, or research data
- Good understanding of data linkage, research data infrastructure, and digital technologies
- Experience identifying and assessing strategic opportunities
- Experience supporting funding, investment, or research programme decisions
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders across healthcare, academia, government, and research
- Experience working with universities, funders, research organisations, or major health institutions
- PhD, MD, or equivalent level of expertise within a relevant scientific, clinical, computational, or quantitative discipline
- Strong strategic thinking with the ability to understand complex areas and translate them into clear priorities and opportunities
