Overview

2 Year Fixed-Term Contract

As a Health Improvement Officer - Partnerships and Inequalities at the London Borough of Harrow, you will have the opportunity to play a vital role in improving the health and wellbeing of residents across the borough. Working within the Public Health team, you will support the delivery of key public health priorities, helping to reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes in areas such as substance misuse, tobacco control and wider health improvement initiatives. Through the development of strategies, needs assessments, action plans and evaluations, you will contribute to evidence-based programmes that make a real difference to local communities.

This is a highly collaborative role that involves building and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of partners, including NHS organisations, voluntary and community sector groups, local authority services and regional stakeholders. You will lead and support projects that bring partners together to address complex public health challenges, ensuring that local services are responsive to the needs of Harrow’s diverse population. The role offers the opportunity to apply public health knowledge and analytical skills to shape and deliver effective interventions, while translating national and regional priorities into practical local action.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
