The Health Records Clerk provides an essential support service to ensure patient records are available in the right place at the right time to support ongoing patient care.
The role involves working across all areas of the Health Records service, including retrieval, filing, preparation, amalgamation, pruning, secure destruction, transportation and delivery of patient records. The post holder will also provide a professional and efficient reception service within outpatient areas, ensuring patients and visitors are welcomed appropriately and that patient records are accurately tracked at all times.

- Accurately maintain, track and manage patient records, including filing, retrieval, clinic preparation, archiving and processing record requests, ensuring compliance with data protection and information governance requirements.
- Prepare and deliver case notes within agreed timescales, ensuring records are complete, available and correctly tracked. Manage duplicate registrations, deceased patient records and secure storage of information.
- Provide reception support by registering patients, updating demographic details, booking and amending appointments, recording attendance outcomes and assisting with patient enquiries.
- Contribute to effective service delivery by supporting audits, performance reporting, service improvements, clinic changes and the induction of new staff. Maintain compliance with mandatory training, health and safety, manual handling and major incident procedures, using equipment safely and reporting risks, incidents or faults through the appropriate channels.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
