Department
Thames Water is the UK's largest water and wastewater company, serving around 16 million customers across London and the Thames Valley. As a trusted delivery partner, Lanes Group plays a vital role in maintaining one of the UK's most critical infrastructure networks, delivering essential wastewater and drainage services that protect communities and the environment.
Our teams carry out everything from sewer maintenance and network cleansing to CCTV inspections and pollution response, ensuring customers receive a safe, reliable, and resilient service every day.
Purpose of the Role
Due to continued growth and development, we are now looking for safety-conscious people to join us in our Utility Division, working on our Thames Water contract service to deliver real and effective solutions to wastewater network and drainage problems.

Hours
Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours (start times to be discussed at interview)
Salary
Up to £35,000 per annum, depending upon experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out risk assessments and identify how risks could be reduced.
- Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take into account all relevant hazards.
- Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
- Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation.
- Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal policy.
- Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks.
- Deliver induction training for new starters.
- Record findings from inspections to produce reports that suggest improvements.
- Record incidents and accidents to produce statistics for managers.
- Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry.
- Attend Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) seminars and read professional journals.
- Produce management reports, newsletters, and bulletins.
- Ensure equipment is installed safely.
- Manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g. asbestos.
- Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, and occupational diseases.
- Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them.
- Any other reasonable ad-hoc tasks, duties, or projects as requested by H&S Manager, Head of Health and Safety, or a member of Senior Leadership Team.

Key Requirements
Skills & Experience
- Benefit from having a NEBOSH qualification and IOSH membership, but it is not essential
- Comply with health and safety standards
- Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them
- Be hardworking and respectful
- Have great interpersonal skills to create relationships with the team
- Have basic knowledge of both Microsoft 365
- Have solid communication skills
- Be resourceful and proactive
- Multi-task, prioritize, work under pressure, and on own initiative
- Willingness to learn and opportunity for development
- Have a UK driver's licence
