Location: Potters Bar, Hertfordshire
Salary: Up to GBP50,000 per annum + Car Allowance

Reporting To: HSEQ Director
The Opportunity
Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established construction contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Health & Safety Advisor / HSEQ Advisor to join their team, based from their Potters Bar office and supporting projects across the business.
Reporting directly to the HSEQ Director, you will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of the company's Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures across live projects.
This is a hands–on position requiring regular engagement with project and site teams. You will carry out site inspections and audits, support the implementation of HSEQ initiatives and campaigns, and play an important role in promoting a positive safety culture throughout the business.
The successful candidate will be proactive, approachable and confident working directly with operational teams to identify areas for improvement and drive consistently high HSEQ standards.
The Role
As HSEQ Advisor, you will work closely with the HSEQ Director and project teams to monitor compliance, identify risks and support continuous improvement across the company's projects.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Monitoring the implementation of company HSEQ policies, procedures and standards across live projects.
- Carrying out regular site inspections and HSEQ audits.
- Accurately recording, reporting and following up on findings from site inspections and audits.
- Identifying areas of non–compliance and working with project teams to implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Providing practical Health & Safety advice and guidance to project and site teams.
- Proactively engaging with operational teams to drive improvements in HSEQ performance.
- Supporting the implementation of company–wide HSEQ initiatives and campaigns.
- Promoting a positive and proactive Health & Safety culture throughout the business.
- Monitoring site activities to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, company procedures and project requirements.
- Supporting project teams with risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
- Assisting with incident and near–miss investigations and ensuring appropriate actions are followed through.
- Monitoring trends and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Supporting toolbox talks, briefings and other HSEQ communications where required.
- Liaising with subcontractors and project teams to ensure expected HSEQ standards are maintained.
- Preparing reports and providing updates to the HSEQ Director.
- Maintaining accurate HSEQ documentation, inspection records and audit trails.
- Handling sensitive company and project information with appropriate confidentiality and discretion.

About You
We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety / HSEQ professional who is comfortable working within a busy construction environment and takes a practical, hands–on approach to improving standards.
You Will Ideally Have
- Previous experience working as a Health & Safety Advisor, HSEQ Advisor or similar within the construction industry.
- Experience carrying out site inspections and audits across live construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation and construction industry requirements.
- Experience monitoring and implementing HSEQ policies and procedures.
- The confidence to challenge unsafe practices professionally and constructively.
- A proactive approach to identifying risks and driving improvements.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with site teams, subcontractors, management and senior leadership.
- Experience supporting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
- Good report–writing, record–keeping and organisational skills.
- The ability to work independently while supporting multiple projects and operational teams.
- A professional approach with the ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity and discretion.
- A relevant Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH Construction or equivalent would be highly advantageous.
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as IOSH would be advantageous.
- A full UK driving licence would be advantageous due to the requirement to visit projects.
