About The Role

Balfour Beatty is looking for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our Power Transmission & Distribution team on the Lower Thames Crossing project.

This is a key leadership role supporting the project through the utilities diversion phase, ensuring the safe delivery of excavation works in close proximity to live services, while maintaining full compliance with company procedures and statutory requirements.

We are seeking a proactive health and safety professional with previous management experience, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to build effective relationships across project teams, clients, supply chain partners, and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will provide leadership, influence safe behaviours, and help drive a positive health and safety culture throughout the project.

The Lower Thames Crossing will create a new connection beneath the River Thames, increasing capacity and reducing congestion across the South East of England. Once complete, it will be one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects, improving connectivity and supporting economic growth.

Balfour Beatty is responsible for the design and delivery of over 10 miles of new highway, connecting the M25 at Junction 29 and the A13 with the Lower Thames Crossing tunnel at Tilbury, Essex.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of a nationally important infrastructure project while helping to shape industry-leading health and safety standards.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide day to day Health and Safety support to the project team
  • Support the planning and delivery of works including review of risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Engage with operational teams to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements
  • Monitor site activities and intervene where unsafe conditions or behaviours are identified
  • Support the implementation of procedures relating to excavation and avoiding danger from services
  • Work closely with project leadership to manage risk and drive safe behaviours
  • Participate in inspections audits and incident investigations as required
  • Support the continuous improvement of health and safety performance across the project

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
