Health, Safety & Workplace Lead
£42,000–£45,000 | 35 hours | Permanent | Flexible/Hybrid | Glasgow & UK hub network
Help us create places where people can do extraordinary work.
At the Wise Group, we transform lives. We support people and communities across the UK, working to tackle poverty, create opportunity and enable positive change.
Our colleagues do that work in communities, from home, alongside partners and through our growing network of hubs. As we grow, we want those environments to be safe and compliant – but also welcoming, inclusive, inspiring and great places to work.
That’s where you come in.
This isn't your typical Health & Safety role
We absolutely need someone who knows their stuff when it comes to health & safety, risk, compliance and workplace environments.
But we're looking for more than someone who can tell us whether we've followed the rules.
We want someone who sees good health and safety as an enabler rather than a constraint – someone who combines professional expertise with pragmatism, trust and good judgement.
Reporting to our People Director, you'll bring together three things that we believe belong together: Keeping people safe. Creating great environments. Enabling impact.
What you'll do
You'll lead our approach to health and safety across the Wise Group, ensuring our systems, assurance and statutory responsibilities are strong, proportionate and effective.
You'll also lead and coordinate our approach to our workplaces, property and facilities, helping us shape a growing network of hubs that colleagues and customers genuinely want to spend time in.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
That will include:
- Leading our approach to health & safety, risk, compliance and assurance
- Making sure our statutory responsibilities, inspections, systems and records are robust
- Carrying out and supporting risk assessments, audits and incident investigations
- Building confidence and capability so leaders and colleagues understand the part they play in keeping people safe
- Working with landlords, contractors, suppliers and partners to keep our workplaces safe and effective
- Supporting our approach to property, facilities, new hubs, relocations and refurbishments
- Spending time in our hubs, listening to colleagues and identifying opportunities to improve their experience
- Considering accessibility, inclusion and wellbeing in how our physical environments work
- Using data, incidents and colleague feedback to help us learn and continuously improve
There will be policies, audits, risk assessments and compliance records. Those things matter. But they're the foundations of the role – not its ambition.
Who we're looking for
You might currently be a Health & Safety Manager, H&S Advisor, Facilities or Property Lead, Estates Manager or Workplace Experience professional.
You could come from housing, hospitality, healthcare, education, the public sector, commercial organisations or another multi-site environment.
We're less interested in the label on your current job and more interested in how you think and how you work.
You'll bring:
- Strong professional health & safety knowledge
- A NEBOSH qualification or equivalent
- Good knowledge of UK health & safety legislation and best practice
- Experience managing risk, compliance and workplace environments
- The confidence to provide professional advice and assurance and influence at senior level
- A pragmatic, proportionate approach to risk
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
- Curiosity, sound judgement and a desire to make things better

We don't want a "health and safety police" approach. We work on the basis of trust, shared responsibility and good judgement, and we want someone who can help us build that culture.
Why the Wise Group?
Because you'll have the opportunity to shape something.
We're a leading UK social enterprise with significant ambitions for the future. You'll have the freedom to bring ideas, challenge how we do things and help shape what our physical presence looks and feels like as we grow.
We're an organisation built around relationships rather than hierarchy, trust rather than unnecessary control, and impact rather than process for process's sake.
If you're looking for a traditional Health & Safety role where success means writing policies and policing compliance, this probably isn't it.
If you want to use your expertise to enable people, shape places and contribute to genuine social impact, we'd love to hear from you.
