Part-Time Health, Safety & Compliance Coordinator
Location: Cockfields, Ashton-under-Lyne, 100% on site
Hours
2–3 days per week, negotiable
Salary
£32,000 FTE, pro rata for the agreed working pattern (dependant on experience)
*Open to contractors or day rate

Cockfields is a busy, fast-moving family visitor attraction combining animals, play facilities, large-scale seasonal events and plenty of activity behind the scenes.
We’re looking for a highly organised and practical Health, Safety & Compliance Coordinator to ensure our essential checks, inspections, risk assessments and safety procedures remain accurate, effective and fully up to date.
This isn’t simply a box-ticking role. We need someone who can identify genuine risks, provide sensible solutions and protect our visitors, employees, animals and business—without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
You’ll be working with a hands-on team, and farmers are a unique bunch! You’ll need a good sense of humour, confidence when communicating with different personalities and the ability to lay down the law when the occasional grumpy farmer is stuck in their ways.
Working pattern
The role can be structured around either two or three days per week, depending on the successful candidate and the needs of the business.
Cockfields operates a busy programme of seasonal events, so workloads can vary throughout the year. Some flexibility will therefore be required to adjust your usual working days or work additional hours during particularly busy weeks and months, especially in the lead-up to major events. Any changes would be discussed and agreed in advance.

What you’ll take ownership of
Compliance calendar
Creating and managing a clear schedule for all inspections, equipment checks, servicing, renewals and risk-assessment reviews—making sure nothing slips through the net.
Fire and equipment safety
Ensuring fire alarm tests, fire-door servicing, PAT testing, KIWA inspections and other essential safety checks are completed on time and properly documented.
Policies, procedures and licensing
Writing, maintaining and regularly reviewing health and safety policies, procedures and practical guidelines, as well as taking ownership of alcohol licensing applications and associated documentation.
Risk assessments
Scheduling, completing and reviewing clear and effective risk assessments for all activities, attractions, equipment and seasonal events across Cockfields.
Animal health and safety
Developing and maintaining appropriate animal health, safety and welfare protocols to protect our animals, visitors and employees.
External suppliers and hired equipment
Liaising with providers of hired equipment to obtain all necessary safety documents, certificates, servicing records and risk assessments.
Insurers and external partners
Working closely with insurers, inspectors and other external professionals, ensuring they receive accurate and up-to-date information.
Records and wider administrative support
Maintaining clear, accurate and easily accessible compliance records, while also supporting the wider team with general office administration and other reasonable administrative duties when required.

About you
You’ll be someone who:
- Has exceptional attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- Can manage multiple deadlines, inspections and renewal dates without anything slipping through the net.
- Takes a practical and proportionate approach to health and safety.
- Understands the difference between managing a genuine risk and introducing unnecessary red tape.
- Can adapt their communication style to explain requirements clearly and effectively to a diverse team, from 16-year-old seasonal employees to experienced colleagues in their 70s.
- Is comfortable standing their ground and addressing issues when something genuinely needs to change.
- Can work independently and take full ownership of their responsibilities.
- Understands the seasonal nature of a visitor attraction and can offer some flexibility around working days and hours during our busiest periods.
- Is willing to get involved and support with wider administrative tasks when needed.
- Has a friendly, approachable personality and a good sense of humour.
Experience within a visitor attraction, farm, animal-care environment, events venue or leisure business would be particularly valuable, but it is not essential.
Relevant health and safety qualifications, such as IOSH or NEBOSH, would also be advantageous.
