Health, Safety & Compliance Officer
We are seeking a meticulous and proactive Health, Safety & Compliance Officer to join our organisation. This role is critical in ensuring full compliance with UK health & safety legislation, BRC standards, ISO management systems, and FSC requirements.
The successful candidate will play a key role in safeguarding our operations against compliance and certification risks while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and operational integrity. You will lead internal audits, coordinate external certification audits, and drive continuous improvement across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain compliance programmes aligned with UK legislation and industry standards
- Ensure full compliance with BRC standards, ISO systems (e.g. ISO 9001 / 14001), and FSC requirements
- Conduct comprehensive internal audits to verify adherence to certification and regulatory standards
- Lead and coordinate external audits, ensuring corrective actions are completed within required timelines
- Review and evaluate HACCP plans (where applicable) to ensure regulatory compliance
- Analyse operational processes, documentation, and records to identify risks and areas for improvement
- Prepare detailed audit reports outlining findings, non-conformities, and corrective actions
- Maintain risk assessments, SOPs, training records, and compliance documentation
- Investigate incidents, non-conformities, or compliance breaches and document findings thoroughly
- Deliver staff training on health & safety, BRC requirements, and quality standards
- Liaise with external auditors and regulatory authorities during inspections
- Monitor changes in legislation and certification standards, updating policies and procedures accordingly

Requirements
- Proven experience in compliance, quality assurance, or audit roles within manufacturing, packaging, food, or related sectors
- Strong working knowledge of BRC standards
- Solid understanding of HACCP principles and their practical application (if applicable to site)
- Experience managing or supporting ISO management systems
- Familiarity with FSC compliance requirements
- NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent) preferred
- Experience conducting internal audits and managing corrective action processes
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Organised and capable of managing multiple audits and compliance priorities
- Confident communicator, able to provide clear guidance and feedback across departments
- High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining professional standards
