Your Role: Health & Safety Director
The Health & Safety Director is responsible for developing, leading, and embedding a best-in-class, ISO aligned health and safety strategy and culture across the organisation. This leadership role ensures regulatory compliance, drives a proactive safety culture, reduces risk exposure, and protects employees, contractors and customers across all operations. Providing single-point leadership for Global’s health, safety, environment and quality agenda across live events, outside broadcasts, activations, UK workplaces and property, and outdoor estates.
The Role Includes:
- Ensuring that the Outdoor business remains ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 50001 accredited and developing and delivering a roadmap for the Workspace and Events & Broadcast businesses to align with, and where appropriate achieve, ISO accreditation.
- Coordinating international Outdoor operations to ensure local management systems are aligned with ISO 45001 standards.
- Developing, implementing and continuously improving the Group’s Integrated Management System to ensure it is effective and robust across Outdoor, Workspace and Events & Broadcast, protecting the business (including brand reputation, corporate responsibility, regulatory compliance and employee health and safety) and safeguarding franchise partners, clients and other third parties.
As Health & Safety Director at Global, you will:
Strategy and Leadership:
- Develop and implement a Group Health & Safety strategy aligned with corporate objectives.
- Provide expert guidance to the Board and Executive Team on risk and compliance matters.
- Establish measurable KPIs and performance frameworks to drive continuous improvement.
- Engage proactively with key stakeholders across Events & Broadcast, Outdoor (including international markets), Workspace, recognising them as internal customers and identifying ways to share information to achieve desired results.
- Understand, respect and respond to others’ priorities and needs, working in partnership to achieve the best outcome that benefits the organisation, protects the business and enables it to meet its commercial objectives.
Governance & Compliance:
- Oversee the development and maintenance of group-wide H&S policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, national, and international H&S legislation.
- Monitor regulatory changes and advise leadership on business impact.
- Lead internal and external audits, inspections, and certifications (e.g. ISO 45001), as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and lead improvement programmes, including behavioural safety.

Risk Management:
- Establish enterprise-wide risk assessment frameworks.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks across all sites.
- Oversee incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans.
- Oversee incident escalation, management and reporting.
- Lead crisis management and emergency preparedness planning.
Operational Oversight:
- Provide leadership and direction to H&S team.
- Ensure consistent standards across multiple business units and geographies.
- Conduct site visits and performance reviews, in conjunction with the team, to ensure implementation.
- Work with the H&S team to support operational leaders in integrating safety into daily operations.
- Oversee budgets to deliver effective and efficient safety performance, develop third party relationships and understand alternative management solutions and market leading approaches.
- Take ownership of the Group’s Integrated Management System and any associated audits and accreditations.
- Assume the role as Sentinel Coordinator for Global Outdoor Media Ltd and Primesight Ltd.
Reporting & Performance:
- Prepare Board-level reports on H&S performance, trends, and risk exposure.
- Work with the H&S team to analyse incident data to identify patterns and improvement opportunities.
- Benchmark performance against industry standards.
Culture & Engagement:
- Support the H&S team to drive behavioural safety programmes and safety leadership training.
- Promote employee engagement and ownership of safety practices.
- Foster a culture of transparency and learning from incidents.

What Success Looks Like
In your first few months, you’ll have:
- Established strong working relationships with business leads and internal customers who know how to engage you and what to expect.
- Created a working Group H&S governance cadence (e.g. monthly exec forum + quarterly Board reporting), with consistent templates and a single source of truth for KPIs and incidents.
- Produced an agreed Group H&S strategy and roadmap (including resources and budget, plus standardised risk assessment, incident investigation and audit/ISO approach.)

Qualification and Knowledge Areas
- In-depth knowledge of UK safety regulations and guidance, including CDM (Construction, Design and Management) regulations, fire safety and crowd control.
- NEBOSH (or equivalent) at Level 6 Health & Safety.
- Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) or equivalent membership of a similar professional body preferred.
- Certifications relevant to sector-specific risks (e.g. construction, events, hazardous operations).
- 10 + years in H&S roles.
- Experience leading multi-site, multi-divisional, or international H&S functions is preferred.
- Track record of Board-level reporting and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Experience embedding ISO 45001 (or similar management systems) across complex organisations.
- Crisis management and incident response leadership.
