Description

We are currently recruiting for a Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Manager to join a well-established recycling and waste management business based in Leicester. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of the HSEQ function at a busy MRF site, working closely with the Operational Management Team to ensure high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and quality are maintained.

Duties

  • Take overall responsibility for HSEQ across the site, acting as the primary point of contact for health, safety, environmental and quality matters.
  • Monitor site operations to ensure compliance with environmental permits, company procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, identify areas for improvement and provide clear reports and recommendations.
  • Investigate and report on accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Manage and maintain ISO systems, documentation and associated processes.
  • Prepare for and support internal and external audits, ensuring actions are followed through to completion.
  • Lead HSEQ meetings and committees, monitoring actions and driving continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate HSEQ training, maintain training matrices and deliver internal health and safety training where required.
  • Work closely with operational teams to promote a positive health and safety culture and challenge unsafe behaviours.
  • Liaise with regulators, enforcement agencies, suppliers and external stakeholders on HSEQ matters.
  • Support the development and performance of first-line management and direct reports.
  • Produce regular HSEQ reports and provide clear updates to the Operational Management Team.

The Ideal Candidate Must

  • Have proven experience in a senior HSEQ, Health & Safety, Environmental or Quality management position.
  • Have experience working within a busy operational environment, ideally within waste, recycling, manufacturing, FMCG or a similar industry.
  • Hold an NVQ Level 4 qualification in Occupational Health & Safety Practice or equivalent.
  • Hold an IEMA Associate Certificate in Environmental Management.
  • Have a strong understanding of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Have experience with ISO management systems, audits and compliance.
  • Be confident challenging unsafe behaviours and influencing teams at all levels.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Be confident using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Be flexible to support the operational requirements of the business, including occasional travel to another Leicester site.
