Aureos are seeking a Health & Safety Manager to support our project in Dungeness.
About the Role
As a Health & Safety Manager, you will provide competent health, safety, quality assurance and environmental advice and support for a major demolition project on a nuclear licensed site. Promote proactive risk reduction, accident prevention, and positive behavioural change through compliance with management system requirements, effective solutions and initiatives, workshop facilitation, and clear communication.
Ensure HSE audits and inspections are completed, recorded, and used to reinforce positive behaviours and support a strong health and safety culture. Promote and coach teams on HSEQ management system requirements. Manage and mentor direct reports, supporting their development and improvement. Demonstrate effective leadership, positive behaviours, and a solutions-focused approach.
Primary Duties, Responsibilities, and Accountabilities:
- Working with the project SMT, exploring opportunities to de-risk the project and specific high hazard work scopes and applying the principles of prevention.
- Facilitating risk assessment workshops with the project team and subject matter experts.
- Maintain the project health and safety risk register and construction phase plan (CPP).
- Liaise with Client project team to ensure coordination with station operations and meeting client’s accountabilities as a nuclear licence holder.
- Contributing to wider company initiatives, procedures, and lesson learnt as requested.
- Responsible for ensuring HSQE specific KPI information is tracked and produce appropriate performance reports.
- Active attendance and participation in internal/external meetings/forums/working groups to promote the business activities.
- Assisting the operational team with reviewing of CDM and other HSEQ documentation.
- Assurance of process and working methods; monitor effectiveness of the business management system.
- Take an active role in developing, maintaining, and promoting a positive HSQE culture.
- Ensuring compliance with standards and client requirements.
- Undertaking task analysis of risk assessment and method statements/Task briefings.
- Provide support and advice for staff to aid and promote sustainable practices.
- Ensure all requirements and findings are closed within the required timescales.
- For ensuring any lessons are shared with the wider team and managing the team resource in the most cost-effective and economical manner.
- Ensuring the required level and quality of HSE advice required is provided.

Secondary Duties, Responsibilities, and Accountabilities:
- Liaison with regulatory/enforcement bodies when required.
- Encourage quality contributions and ensure timely close out and feedback is actioned, promote lessons learnt and good practice sharing.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with site teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Promotion of occupational health, and wellbeing.
- Prepare and aid delivery of workforce awareness, engagement briefings, and training sessions.
- Lead on Level 2 investigations and support others in such investigations.
- Proactively reducing risk through input and attendance during the planning process.
- Provide support to tendering activity as required.
- Deputise for Lead HSQE Manager where appropriate.
Qualifications and Training
Essential:
- NEBOSH Diploma – Level 6 (or similar)
- IOSH Chartered Membership
- Valid driving Licence
- CSCS Health and Safety Managers Card
- At least 5 years in heavy construction and/or demolition
- Major projects experience
- Experience to include at least 3 years with a Tier 1 contractor organisation
- Experience in effective accident investigations and follow up
- An excellent understanding of CDM 2015 and other related HSE related legislation
- A demonstrable track record success in improving and maintaining good health and safety performance
- A proven track record of proactive health and safety management
- Excellent time management and relationship skills, comfortably working effectively within a broad range of working environments.
- Positive attitude
- Ability to use IT systems including Microsoft 365, and HSQE specific systems.

- IEMA Practitioner member (or equivalent) - Essential if E is included in the role
- Mental Health First Aider
- Formal accident investigation training i.e. Kelvin Top Set 1 day – 3 day or similar
- Manager, Supervisor, or Leadership Training
- Asbestos Management/Awareness training
- Lifting operations competencies/experience
- Confined spaces competencies/experience
- Emergency planning competencies/experience
- Radiological protection competencies/experience
- Behavioural Safety Training/experience incl TCUP
- COSHH Coordinator competencies/experience
- Experience on working on Nuclear Licenced facilities
- Experience in developing and the application of management systems
- Site inspections and risk assessment experience
- Sustainability and carbon capture
- Familiar with Bowtie Risk Analysis processes
- Strong interpersonal skills able to communicate clearly to inform and influence others; uses appropriate, effective methods to deliver messages.
- Embraces and drives continuous improvement, challenging the status quo for the benefit of the business, supporting learning and development.
- Hands-on approach to problem solving
- Excellent standard of written and numerical literacy
