Health & Safety Manager

Location: Leicester (with regular UK travel)

Full Time | Permanent

An exciting opportunity

Our client is a well-established, national retail business with an extensive UK store network. They are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead and develop their health and safety function across multiple locations. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive Health & Safety professional who enjoys working closely with operational teams, influencing positive change and driving a strong safety culture across a fast-paced, multi-site business.

The Role

Reporting to the senior leadership team, you will take ownership of the company's Health & Safety strategy, ensuring compliance with legislation while supporting managers to create safe and healthy working environments. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert Health & Safety advice and guidance to managers across the business.
  • Ensuring compliance with current UK Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
  • Conducting site inspections, audits and compliance reviews across retail stores and operational locations.
  • Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing preventative measures.
  • Developing and reviewing risk assessments, safe systems of work and Health & Safety policies.
  • Delivering Health & Safety training, toolbox talks and awareness sessions.
  • Supporting operational managers to improve Health & Safety standards and embed best practice.
  • Producing Health & Safety reports, analysing trends and presenting recommendations to senior management.
  • Managing relationships with external agencies, insurers and enforcement authorities where required.
  • Leading initiatives that promote continuous improvement and a positive safety culture.
  • Supporting fire safety, contractor management and business continuity planning.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Health & Safety professional who can build strong relationships, influence stakeholders and confidently support a multi-site operation. You'll ideally have:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum requirement).
  • IOSH Membership (or working towards).
  • Previous experience as a Health & Safety Manager, Advisor or Business Partner.
  • Experience within a retail, logistics, warehousing or other multi-site operational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation.
  • Experience carrying out audits, investigations and risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong report writing and analytical ability.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally.

Desirable

  • NEBOSH Diploma.
  • Chartered IOSH (CMIOSH).
  • Fire Safety qualification.
  • Experience within retail or FMCG.
  • ISO 45001 and environmental management experience.
