Hands on Health & Safety in an Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Environment
Up to £58,000 + bonus & excellent benefits | Permanent | Site-based
A leading and technically advanced manufacturing organisation is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join its Gloucester operation.
This is a highly visible, hands-on H&S role supporting a complex manufacturing environment, with the opportunity to make a genuine impact on site safety, compliance and culture.
Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety, Environment & Energy, you will work closely with operational leaders and the wider HSEE team, acting as the key point of contact for day-to-day health and safety matters across the site.
The Role
You will take ownership of the tactical delivery of Health & Safety across the facility, ensuring robust systems, controls and processes are in place and continually improved.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the development and implementation of H&S strategies, systems, procedures and policies
- Providing hands-on H&S support to operational managers across the factory floor
- Ensuring compliance with UK H&S legislation, regulatory requirements and industry standards
- Managing and continuously improving the site's H&S Management System, with a focus on maintaining ISO 45001
- Conducting risk assessments, hazard analyses, inspections and compliance audits
- Identifying and controlling physical, chemical, ergonomic and other workplace hazards
- Leading investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, establishing root causes and implementing corrective actions
- Delivering H&S training, toolbox talks, safety briefings and awareness programmes
- Managing emergency preparedness, drills and response procedures
- Developing and leading the site's Health & Safety Committee and employee engagement initiatives
- Driving behavioural safety and developing a strong, proactive safety culture
- Monitoring H&S performance through KPIs, leading indicators and regular reporting
- Working collaboratively with suppliers, contractors, managers and employees to continuously improve site standards

What we're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced H&S professional from a complex manufacturing environment who is comfortable being highly visible on the factory floor and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
You'll ideally bring:
- Significant Health & Safety experience within a high-risk manufacturing environment
- Strong practical knowledge of COSHH, DSEAR and PUWER
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification
- Experience of H&S Management Systems and ISO 45001
- Strong risk assessment, auditing and incident investigation experience
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- The confidence to challenge, influence and coach operational teams
- The ability to work autonomously while also operating effectively as part of a wider HSEE function
