Description
Impact Recruitment are working with a well-established manufacturing business in Northampton to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join their team on a permanent basis. This is a hands-on support role within a busy manufacturing environment, providing day-to-day Health, Safety and Environmental support across the factory, warehouse and office areas.
Role Purpose
As a Health & Safety Officer, you'll support the day-to-day management of Health, Safety and Environmental standards across the site. You'll spend time on the shop floor carrying out workplace inspections, identifying hazards and supporting corrective actions, alongside assisting with risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work, incident investigations, HSE documentation and toolbox talks.
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8am-5pm | Friday, 8am-1pm
Location: Northampton, Northamptonshire
Salary: £32,000
Responsibilities
- Monitor day-to-day compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and legal requirements.
- Carry out regular workplace inspections and Gemba Walks across the factory, warehouse and office areas.
- Identify hazards, unsafe conditions and unsafe behaviours and support appropriate corrective actions.
- Assist with the development, review and maintenance of Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
- Maintain HSE documentation, records and reporting systems accurately.
- Support the reporting and investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Assist with identifying root causes and tracking corrective actions through to completion.
- Support Health & Safety inductions, toolbox talks and employee awareness activities.
- Provide practical Health & Safety support and guidance to employees, supervisors and managers.
- Carry out routine inspections of safety equipment, first aid kits and emergency equipment.
- Support environmental compliance activities, including waste management, spill prevention and housekeeping standards.
- Ensure spill kits and first aid supplies are maintained and replenished when required.
- Promote good housekeeping and safe working practices throughout the site.
- Encourage employees to report hazards, near misses and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure corrective and preventative actions are followed up.

Requirements

- Around 2-3 years' experience within a manufacturing, engineering or similar operational environment.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- IOSH Managing Safely or IOSH Working Safely.
- Good understanding of workplace Health & Safety requirements.
- Experience or understanding of carrying out workplace inspections and identifying hazards.
- Experience or understanding of Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to communicate with employees, supervisors and managers.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and completing HSE documentation.
