Job Title: Health, Safety & Resilience Advisor
General Information
- Working Hours: 37 hours per week
- Salary Range: £38,510 to £42,123 pa – pro rata for hours worked
- Type of Contract: Fixed Term – 12 Months
- Location: Stevenage/Hybrid

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated health, safety and/or resilience professional to join Stevenage Borough Council's Health, Safety and Resilience Team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Support managers and employees across the Council to maintain safe, healthy and legally compliant workplaces.
- Provide practical health and safety advice, undertake audits, inspections and investigations.
- Promote a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture throughout the organisation.
- Support the delivery of the Council's health, safety, wellbeing and resilience programmes.

Reporting: To the Health, Safety and Resilience Manager.

Scope of Role:
- Broad range of service areas, including housing and property services, environmental and operational services, community services and office-based functions.
- Work closely with managers and employees to identify risks, develop practical solutions and support continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
- Support the Council's wellbeing programme by developing and promoting initiatives that support employee health and wellbeing.
- Provide support to the Council's resilience and emergency planning arrangements, contributing to business continuity activities and emergency preparedness work.

About You

Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in a health and safety role.
- Relevant professional qualifications, including a minimum of a NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent).
- Sound understanding of health and safety legislation.
- Experience of carrying out inspections, risk assessments, audits or workplace investigations would be advantageous.

Skills:
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to provide clear advice and guidance to managers and employees at all levels.
- Confidence in delivering training, promoting best practice and supporting positive behavioural change.
- Organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining excellent attention to detail.
- Collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to improving health, safety and wellbeing.
- Comfortable using IT systems to support monitoring, reporting and record-keeping activities.
