Are you an experienced Health & Safety professional looking for a role where you can use your knowledge across a wide range of businesses and industries?
We’re looking for a Health & Safety SSIP Assessor to join our team, carrying out desktop-based assessments of contractors against recognised Health & Safety, compliance and SSIP standards.
You’ll review contractor submissions and supporting evidence, applying your Health & Safety knowledge and professional judgement to determine whether the required standards have been met before accreditation is awarded.
What you’ll be doing
As a Health & Safety SSIP Assessor, you’ll:
- Complete proportionate, risk-based desktop Health & Safety and SSIP assessments.
- Review contractor documentation, evidence and compliance information against defined assessment criteria.
- Apply UK Health & Safety legislation, industry standards and best practice when making assessment decisions.
- Review Health & Safety documentation and supporting compliance evidence.
- Make informed decisions on whether contractors have demonstrated the required standard for accreditation.
- Contact customers and contractors by phone and email to obtain information and supporting evidence.
- Clearly explain non-conformances and provide constructive feedback where improvements or additional evidence are required.
- Provide Health & Safety advice and guidance to customers.
- Produce clear, detailed and accurate assessment reports.
- Deliver excellent levels of customer service throughout the assessment process.
- Manage your workload while meeting expectations around productivity, accuracy, consistency and assessment quality.
- Work collaboratively with a wider team of Health & Safety professionals and contribute to continuous improvement.

What you’ll need to be successful
You’ll have a strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice, alongside experience applying your knowledge within a workplace environment.
You must have:
- NEBOSH General Certificate (Level 3) or an equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- TechIOSH membership or eligibility to obtain TechIOSH membership.
- Minimum 2 years' UK Health & Safety experience gained within construction, engineering, manufacturing, facilities management, utilities, or another workplace environment.
- Understanding of CDM Regulations or experience working within construction environments is advantageous
- Experience writing, reviewing or working with Health & Safety documentation.
- Contractor-facing or customer-facing experience.
- Strong attention to detail and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to explain Health & Safety and compliance requirements clearly to customers and contractors.
- The ability to effectively manage your workload while maintaining high standards of quality and consistency.
- Experience within construction, engineering, facilities management, manufacturing or utilities would be particularly relevant.
