Job Summary

The Senior Health Safety and Wellbeing Manager provides visible HSW leadership and direction to the project, promoting positive HSW practices and adhering to relevant regulations and standards. The role reports directly into the Project Director with dotted line reporting into the Head of HSW, UK&I.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a lead on all matters relating to Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) and ensure the implementation of policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Engage and communicate Project HSW strategies and methods to initiate and/or implement change to improve project HSW performance.
  • Support Senior managers to actively engage/lead on HSW to promote HSW awareness throughout the project.
  • Ensure the development, review and update of the Project HSW Management System in a timely manner.
  • Support Managers to minimise conflict between HSW and programme considerations to ensure workable and compliant solutions are implemented.
  • Prioritise core areas of HSW expertise and impact knowledge to aid the development, training and mentoring of others.
  • Advise on and interpret project contractual and statutory requirements and obligations to protect the project’s integrity.
  • Drive the Dragados S4S HSW culture climate on the project and the implementation of all S4S tools including Climate Surveys.
  • Create, develop and maintain collaborative internal/external relationships to maximise impact of expertise and knowledge to influence the quality of decision making.
  • Support Senior managers to plan and manage stakeholders’ HSW expectations to assist the achievement of project targets.
  • Liaise with industry and regulatory bodies to ensure the project identifies and meets its HSW obligations to compliance and social responsibilities and standards.
  • Work collaboratively with other Dragados Projects and in particular with the wider Dragados HSW Team.

Project Specific

  • Provide proactive, effective and knowledgeable CDM support particularly in the pre-construction phase of the project to Dragados as Principal Designer.
  • Work collaboratively with all CDM duty holders and in the early engagement of contractors on constructability consultation and with other interested parties/stakeholders
  • Assure that the Dragados PD duties and responsibilities are understood and discharged.
  • Understanding of the Building Safety Act 2022 regulations requirements and how they may dovetail with CDM.
  • Develop a competent and effective HSW function and be a positive influential lead.
  • Successfully transition into the efficient delivery of the Construction Phase HSW requirements and support Dragados as Principal Contractor.
  • Maintain close understanding and overview of the project works and associated HSW risks (hands-on).
  • Develop the HSW Project strategy in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team and implement the strategy through Project HSW delivery plan.

Technical Skills And Competencies

  • Understanding of HSW standards and the evaluation of compliance thereof
  • Knowledge of HSW Risk Management
  • Able to undertake incident reporting, investigation and associated event management.
  • Able to undertake performance monitoring and measurement.
  • Proven knowledge of construction techniques and their implications for HSW.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of all aspects of construction Health and Safety.
  • Knowledge of behavioural safety techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in integrated teams
  • Ability to communicate effectively with frontline staff, peers and senior executives

Qualifications, Certifications And Experience

  • Technical ‘hand-on’ experience working on large-scale construction projects.
  • Relevant experience in similar role and industry.
  • CMIOSH membership and related formal qualifications.
  • Demonstrable HSW leadership and team management skills, with experience overseeing a team of HSW professionals
