We are seeking a practical, organised and enthusiastic Science & Health Technician to join our team on a part-time basis at our Eastleigh Campus.

This varied role will primarily support our Science curriculum, preparing and maintaining laboratories, equipment and resources for Biology and Chemistry practical activities, particularly for our Access to Higher Education students.

In addition to supporting our Science provision, you will provide technical support within our Health curriculum, including supporting teaching and learning activities for our Dental Apprentices working within the College's Dental Suite.

This is a part-time position working 15 hours per week. Applicants must be available to work either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Wednesday to meet the needs of the curriculum and technical support service.

Duties

  • Prepare and set up Biology and Chemistry practical experiments and demonstrations.
  • Support teaching staff and students during practical sessions where required.
  • Maintain Science laboratories and specialist learning environments to a high standard.
  • Assist with the preparation of resources and equipment for Access to Higher Education Science programmes and other curriculum areas.
  • Support practical teaching and learning activities within Health programmes, including the Dental Suite.
  • Monitor, maintain and organise laboratory equipment and specialist resources.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH and risk assessment requirements.
  • Maintain stock control, procurement processes and equipment inventories.
  • Arrange servicing, maintenance and repairs of specialist equipment when required.
  • Safely manage the storage and disposal of chemicals, materials and consumables.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation relating to equipment, resources and safety procedures.
  • Support curriculum activities, college events, open evenings and student recruitment events.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to develop innovative practical learning experiences.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working in a laboratory, scientific, healthcare or technical support environment.
  • Has knowledge of Biology and Chemistry practical activities and laboratory procedures.
  • Understands health and safety requirements within laboratory and practical learning environments.
  • Is highly organised, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Has strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Is confident using digital systems and maintaining accurate records.
  • Can work independently and use their initiative to solve practical problems.
  • Is committed to supporting outstanding teaching, learning and student achievement.
