The Mary How Trust for Cancer Prevention is an independent charity providing health screenings to identify early signs of cancer and other serious conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes. The charity’s mission is to help people understand and manage their health risks so they can lead healthier, happier, and more productive lives. Operating on a donation-based model, the Trust aims to make screening accessible to all, regardless of ability to pay, with vital support from donors and fundraisers. Based in West Sussex and Surrey and welcoming clients from any location, the Trust offers individual health screening to asymptomatic clients, on a self-referral basis.
Role Description
This is a full-time or part-time, on-site Health & Wellbeing Nurse role based at our new clinic near Godalming, Surrey. The Health & Wellbeing Screening Nurse will carry out health screenings, including clinical assessments, diagnostic tests, and health risk evaluations, in line with the Trust’s protocols and standards. The role involves explaining test results clearly, discussing risk factors, and providing evidence-based health and lifestyle advice to help clients take control of their wellbeing. The nurse will collaborate with the clinical and administrative teams, maintain accurate and confidential records, and support continuous improvement of screening pathways. The position also includes contributing to patient education materials, promoting the charity’s services, and upholding safeguarding, infection control, and quality assurance requirements.

Qualifications

- Current registered nurse qualification (e.g., NMC registration) and experience in primary care, community health, preventative health settings, or similar.
- Experience in phlebotomy and ECGs.
- Strong clinical assessment skills, including taking histories, and interpreting screening and results.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain health information in a clear, empathetic, and non-judgmental way.
- Competence in health promotion.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and build positive relationships with clients, colleagues, and external partners.
- Good IT skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to service needs and a genuine motivation to support early detection and prevention of serious illness.
