Job Overview

We are looking to recruit experienced Health Care Assistants at Frimley NHS Health Foundation Trust (FHFT) who are currently working in the UK in a Healthcare setting. We have a range of Health Care Assistant (HCA) vacancies across our clinical directorates on our Frimley Park Hospital site.

We are looking for compassionate, caring healthcare workers who strive to deliver high quality care to patients. Please note this is a front facing clinical role where a high level of spoken and written English language is required. Please do not use AI software for completion of your application for this role.

You currently must be in the UK and have current experience of working in a UK Healthcare setting as an HCA.

Main duties of the job

Delegated Clinical Duties

  • Taking observations: Recording vital signs like blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation
  • Blood sampling: Performing venepuncture (phlebotomy) to take blood samples
  • Clinical testing: Carrying out urinalysis, blood glucose monitoring, and pregnancy testing
  • Wound care: Doing simple wound dressings and removing sutures or staples
  • Device Removal: Removing peripheral cannulas and urinary catheters after specialised training
  • Testing and screening: Taking MRSA screening swabs and performing ECGs (electrocardiograms)

Personal and Patient Care

  • Daily living support: Helping patients with washing, bathing, dressing, and grooming
  • Nutrition and hydration: Preparing meals, feeding patients, and recording fluid intake and output
  • Mobility and Comfort: Helping patients move safely using exercise or mobility aids, and preventing pressure sores

Administrative and Communication Tasks

  • Record keeping: Accurately updating patient information, observations, and care charts
  • Reporting changes: Escalating any changes in a patient's physical or mental condition to registered nurses right away

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

As a Band 3 health care assistant in AMU BLUE, you will be responsible for providing high standards of patient care by carrying out delegated clinical and technical tasks under the supervision of registered nurses.

Key Clinical And Technical Responsibilities

  • Recording Observations: Measuring and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and blood glucose levels.
  • Clinical procedures: Performing tasks like simple wound dressings, suture or staple removal, catheter care or removal, and urine testing.
  • Sample collection: Taking blood samples (phlebotomy) and collecting biological specimens such as wound swabs or urine samples.
  • Patient monitoring: Tracking patient changes, reporting clinical shifts to qualified staff, and escalating any concerns about deteriorating patients.

General And Support Responsibilities

  • Personal care: Assisting patient with daily living activities like bathing, dressing, toileting, and meals when required alongside clinical duties.
  • Care Plan Implementation: Following individual patient care plans and adhering to evidence-based trust policies.
  • Record keeping: Accurately documenting patient care delivery and updates in clinical systems.
  • Team support: Leading by example, maintain professional boundaries, and supporting or guiding junior or Band 2 staff.
