We are St Andrew’s, a mental health charity with a clear purpose: to inspire hope for people living with complex mental health needs. Our Birmingham site is on an ambitious improvement journey.
As we continue to evolve, we are looking for compassionate, resilient, calm, and proactive Healthcare Assistants to join our team.
St Andrew’s Birmingham is a 125 bedded adult mental healthcare facility comprises of eight units that cover medium and low security for both Men and Women. Located in Stirchley, a vibrant area in South Birmingham, easily accessible by road networks and public transport.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support individuals with complex mental health needs in a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-focused environment. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality care, promote dignity, and support patients in their journey toward improved mental health and independence.

Key Responsibilities
- Support patients with daily living activities, including personal care and wellbeing
- Build positive, therapeutic relationships
- Observe and report changes in patients' mental and physical health
- Assist in implementing care plans and risk management
- Maintain a safe and secure environment in accordance with hospital policies
- Work collaboratively with nurses, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in a healthcare, mental health setting
- A caring, patient, and non-judgmental approach
- Strong communication and observation skills
- Can work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond appropriately to challenging situations
- Willingness to undertake relevant training
- Completion of Care Certificate is required for this role
- Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays
