Role Description

The Healthcare Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Portsmouth. The role involves providing high-quality personal care and support to individuals in their homes and in care facilities, following care plans and professional guidelines. Day-to-day tasks include:

The Healthcare Assistant will work closely with nursing and care teams, communicate effectively with individuals and their families, and follow infection control, health and safety, and safeguarding procedures. The role also includes maintaining accurate records and contributing to a positive, respectful, and safe environment for the people receiving care.

Qualifications

  • Strong patient care abilities, including personal care, monitoring wellbeing, and supporting daily living needs.
  • Manual handling skills and safe use of equipment to assist with mobility and positioning.
  • Good understanding of basic medicine support tasks, such as following medication guidance under appropriate supervision.
  • Knowledge of health & safety practices, infection control, and safeguarding in health and social care settings.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including clear communication, empathy, and the ability to build trust with individuals and families.
  • Previous experience in care, healthcare, or social care settings is desirable.
  • Relevant care qualifications (e.g., NVQ/QCF in Health and Social Care or equivalent) are an advantage.
  • Ability to work flexibly, follow instructions, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
