About Carson McDowell

Carson McDowell is a leading commercial law firm, with offices in the UK and Ireland. The Firm has an unrivalled reputation as a leader in the field of clinical negligence defence work.

Our dedicated clinical negligence team provides a top-quality service to professionals in the healthcare sector and consistently receives top tier rankings in both Chambers and Legal 500 rankings. Through our specialised/multijurisdictional work, we have a deep understanding of the health sector and associated clinical negligence environments. Our extensive experience in this area makes us a trusted and longstanding partner for key clients navigating clinical negligence claims at all Court levels, as evidenced by our regular instruction on many of the most complex, sensitive and high-profile claims in this area of work.

Job Opportunity

We are investing in and expanding our Healthcare Team in England and are looking for ambitious, motivated legal professionals at all levels who have a passion for healthcare work. This is a unique opportunity to make a smart career move, to learn from leading Healthcare Partners in a firm with extensive multijurisdictional experience; to build on existing expertise; and, depending on experience, to help lead and develop a new sub-team as part of the continued growth of our wider Healthcare practice area.

This role offers significant flexibility, and applications from fully remote candidates will be reviewed. However, candidates should be willing and able to attend the office periodically for team collaboration, client engagement, and business requirements on occasion. Candidates with experience in representing both Defendants and Claimants in clinical negligence claims will be considered, as well as candidates with experience in dealing with catastrophic/high value personal injury litigation (both Claimant and Defendant).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
