Role: Healthcare Copywriter

Sector: Healthcare Marketing, Communications & Creative Services

Reporting to – Copy and Strategy Lead

Contract Type: Freelance contract

Working Pattern: 3-4 days per week (negotiable)

Experience Level – 5 + years experience as a copywriter in the agency environment

Day Rate: Competitive; dependent on experience

Location: Primarily remote with regular co-working opportunities

Start Date - Immediate

Working as an extension of our clients' teams, we combine strategy, creativity and execution to develop content and campaigns that engage healthcare professionals, patients and broader stakeholder audiences.

Role Purpose and Overview

The purpose of the Healthcare Copywriter role is to create compelling, accurate and engaging content across digital, print and integrated communications channels while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, client requirements and brand guidelines.

The Healthcare Copywriter plays a key role in developing content that supports healthcare brands, products and services throughout the communications journey. The role bridges the gap between science and storytelling by transforming complex medical information into compelling and audience-focused content while ensuring factual accuracy and adherence to approved claims, regulatory requirements and client brand standards.

You will partner closely with strategy, client services, design and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality work that is on brief, on budget and aligned to agreed objectives. You will be responsible for translating complex scientific, clinical and healthcare information into content that is clear, accessible and relevant to target audiences. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent writing skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within a fast-paced agency environment.

Key Responsibilities

Content Development

  • Create clear, accurate and engaging content across digital, print, email, social media and campaign materials.
  • Adapt content for healthcare professionals, patients and consumer audiences.
  • Ensure messaging is aligned to approved claims, brand guidelines and campaign objectives.

Healthcare & Scientific Content

  • Translate complex clinical, scientific and healthcare information into accessible communications.
  • Develop content primarily for primary care healthcare professionals, including GPs, nurses and pharmacists.
  • Ensure content is evidence-based, accurate and audience appropriate.

Collaboration & Client Partnership

  • Work closely with strategy, account and creative teams to deliver integrated communications programmes.
  • Contribute to messaging development, campaign concepts and content strategies.
  • Attend client meetings, workshops and briefing sessions as required.

Quality, Compliance & Delivery

  • Ensure all content meets healthcare compliance requirements and client standards.
  • Manage amends, approvals and version control efficiently.
  • Deliver high-quality work on time and within agreed scope.

  • Stay informed on healthcare trends, therapy areas and communications best practice.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience in healthcare, medical or scientific copywriting.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex medical and scientific information.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines.

Desirable

  • Agency experience.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device or health-tech sectors.
  • Familiarity with ABPI and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Experience creating content for healthcare professional and patient audiences.

Success Measures

  • High-quality content delivered on time and within scope.
  • Consistent compliance with approved claims and brand guidelines.
  • Positive client and internal team feedback.
  • Minimal rework due to quality or accuracy issues.
  • Contribution to successful client campaigns and projects.
