The Role
The Adult Eating Disorder Service (AEDS) provides specialist care and treatment for adults with moderate to severe eating disorders who often present with complex mental, physical and social care needs. Based within Specialist Services in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, the service delivers evidence-based treatment in community and inpatient settings, promoting recovery, personal choice and independence. Working as part of an experienced multidisciplinary team, the post holder will contribute to high-quality, recovery-focused care and support service users to achieve their individual goals while helping to prevent hospital admission wherever possible.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Permanent Role
- Florence Street Resource Centre
- 36 hours, Monday to Friday 9 am - 5 pm (3.30 pm finish one day to be agreed)
Key Responsibilities
- Play an important role in supporting both physical health monitoring and recovery-focused interventions within the Adult Eating Disorder Service.
- Work collaboratively with service users, carers, families and the wider multidisciplinary team, developing therapeutic relationships built on empathy, respect and compassion.
- Undertake physical health assessments, including venepuncture following appropriate training and competency assessment.
- Support agreed treatment and recovery plans.
- Monitor and report changes in physical and mental health.
- Assist with therapeutic activities and interventions.
- Encourage participation in therapeutic, educational and recreational programmes.
- Support therapeutic eating interventions.
- Promote social inclusion and community engagement.
- Assist individuals to develop healthy coping strategies and practical life skills.
- Maintain a safe environment in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, supervision and reflective practice.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required
- Experience of working in a supportive and enabling role.
- Understanding of mental health recovery and the factors that support or hinder the recovery process.
- Ability to support individuals in developing and working towards recovery goals and plans.
- Ability to work creatively and in an enabling, person-centred manner.
- Ability to maintain and model appropriate professional boundaries.
- Ability to undertake practical tasks and support daily living activities where appropriate.
- Understanding of the impact of stigma, discrimination, equality and diversity issues.
- Ability to manage stress effectively and prioritise workload.
- Strong understanding of confidentiality and information governance requirements.
- Excellent active listening skills.
- Awareness of the value of clinical supervision and reflective practice.
- Computer literacy and confidence using electronic systems.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice guidance.
- Willingness to undertake training and competency-based assessment in physical health monitoring, including venepuncture.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of mental health and eating disorder care.
