Contract Type: Permanent

Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team within the Dermatology Day Unit based at the Royal South Hants (RSH) Hospital Southampton. The Dermatology unit operates from 08.00 – 18.00 Monday to Friday, with some optional out of hours/ weekend working.
The Dermatology Department offers various services and clinics such as UVL treatment, photo testing, Botox, patch, 2-week skin cancer pathway, and vulval clinics. Many of our clinics are nurse-led such as acne, topical treatments, ultraviolet light therapy, allergy patch testing, mole mapping, and wound clinics.
We are looking to recruit a Health Care Support worker who has a keen interest in working in the speciality of Dermatology. Previous experience is desirable however not essential, as all the training required will be provided.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the below;
- Work in a team of nursing staff and clinicians, ensuring high standards of care are developed and maintained within that team.
- Assist in the smooth running of the various clinics (includes preparing and setting up at the start of the day and closing the clinic rooms once clinics have finished).
- To give and receive regular reports on the progress of patients, immediately acting on any changes in the patient’s condition, and reporting them to the relevant health care professional.
- Assist clinicians during clinics, taking clinical photographs, and observations, chaperoning patients, helping patients with undressing/dressing and mobilisation.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria
- Completed care certificate or ability to complete within 6 months of appointment.
- Capable of attaining NVQ level 3 in care with acute units corresponding to specialty or equivalent experience
- Completed secondary education
- Ability to move and handle patients and equipment
- Evidence of empathy, patience and dependability
- Ability to deal with a range of difficult situations
- Be able to take instruction / directions and work within the confines of the role
- Ability to cope with fluctuating demands and pressures of the role.

- Capable of completing core HCSW competencies and additional specific competencies related to area of work within 12 months of appointment
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in - Acute hospital setting, volunteer sector, teaching assistant. and Nursing care home career
