Role Overview
As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting patients on their recovery journey. Working under the guidance of registered nurses, you will assist with direct patient care and help create a positive, supportive environment where patients can achieve their rehabilitation goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with our nursing team and a wide range of healthcare professionals, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care that reflects each patient's individual needs, wishes, and goals.
- Support people recovering from illness or injury following admission to an acute hospital, helping them regain confidence, independence, and quality of life.
- Assist registered nurses and healthcare professionals in the delivery of individualised holistic care which is delivered with compassion, dignity, and respect.
- Work with the multidisciplinary team and contribute to the prevention of harm by participating in risk assessments such as nutrition, pressure area care, continence, and falls.
- Assist patients with their care and nutritional support and needs.
- Safely and accurately record physiological observations such as blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperatures and escalate and report to the registered nurse accountable for the patient's care.
- Report back any relevant care about the patient to the registered nurse.
- Assist patients to mobilise safely using equipment and techniques prescribed and recorded in their plan of care.
- Promote a culture of ambulatory care by supporting patients to be as independent as possible with washing, dressing in their own clothes, and encouraging mobility from admission.
- Assist in the provision of prescribed programmes of care, e.g., rehabilitation and therapy goals, under supervision and guidance.
- Support patient-centred rehabilitation to facilitate safe and timely discharges and which reflects individual choice and maximising independence.
