Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Mechanic role based in the United Kingdom. The HGV Mechanic will be responsible for:
- Inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy goods vehicles and plant machinery, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, hydraulics, and electrical components.
- Carrying out scheduled servicing.
- Performing reactive maintenance.
- Conducting safety checks.
- Maintaining accurate service and repair records.

- Collaborating with operations staff to minimize vehicle downtime.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant safety and roadworthiness standards.
- Supporting occasional call-outs or overtime as required to meet operational needs.
The mechanic is expected to:
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace.
- Follow company procedures and health and safety guidelines at all times.
Qualifications
- Strong technical skills in diagnosing, repairing, and servicing Heavy Goods Vehicles and plant machinery.
- Proficiency with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems used in HGVs and related equipment.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools, service manuals, and workshop equipment safely and effectively.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail when identifying faults and completing repairs.
- Effective communication skills for liaising with colleagues, supervisors, and external suppliers.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a busy on-site workshop environment.
- Recognized qualification in vehicle mechanics or heavy vehicle engineering (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- Relevant HGV experience; a valid HGV driving license is an advantage but not essential.
- Strong commitment to health and safety practices and adherence to regulatory standards.
- Willingness to support flexible working hours, including occasional overtime or call-outs, to meet project demands.
