Total Fleet Support is a 24-hour, IRTE-accredited HGV and trailer workshop in Oldbury, minutes from Junction 2 of the M5, dedicated to keeping commercial fleets on the road and fully compliant. Operating from a 28,000 sq ft facility, the team conducts around 500 laden roller brake tests per month, with all work double-checked by an internal quality control team and achieving a 100% MOT pass rate on preparation and presentation.
In addition to workshop services, mobile engineers work on customer sites nationwide, performing onsite inspections and repairs, supported by 24/7 breakdown cover. The company offers comprehensive services including routine and planned maintenance, diagnostics, engine and electrical repairs, vehicle and trailer refurbishment, safety testing, and around-the-clock breakdown support.

Role Description
The Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician is a full-time, on-site position based in Birmingham, responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing HGVs and trailers to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance.

Day-to-day tasks include:
- Carrying out routine and scheduled maintenance
- Performing safety inspections
- Fault diagnosis
- Engine servicing
- Electrical repairs
The role involves:
- Preparing vehicles and trailers for MOT
- Supporting roller brake testing
- Completing repairs such as commercial vehicle bodywork, curtain and roller shutter door fixes, tail lift and LOLER work, and trailer refurbishment
The technician will:
- Accurately document all work
- Follow workshop quality control processes
- Adhere to relevant compliance and safety standards
The position may also involve:
- Supporting breakdowns
- Working occasional unsociable hours
- Collaborating closely with workshop colleagues and mobile engineers to minimize vehicle downtime
Qualifications
Candidates should possess:
- Strong technical skills in HGV and trailer maintenance, including diagnostics, engine servicing, and mechanical repairs
- Practical skills in electrical fault-finding and repair on commercial vehicles and trailers
- Experience in MOT preparation, safety inspections, brake testing support, and compliance with DVSA and industry standards
- Capabilities in welding, fabrication, and general bodywork repairs for commercial vehicles and trailers
- Effective problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow structured quality control procedures
- Strong communication skills, the ability to interpret technical documentation, and work collaboratively within a workshop team

Relevant vocational qualifications (e.g., Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent) and proven experience as an HGV or commercial vehicle technician are highly beneficial.
A valid driving license (HGV license advantageous), familiarity with health and safety
