Location: Goole, East Yorkshire
Salary: £25.00 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week
Overtime: Paid at time and a half after 40 hours

The Opportunity

Straight-Line Group is looking for an experienced Heavy Plant Fitter / Plant Fitter / Mechanical Engineer to join an established and growing team in Goole. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong mechanical knowledge and practical experience working with heavy plant, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, commercial vehicles or similar machinery. You’ll play an important role in keeping a range of plant and machinery safe, reliable and operational, carrying out planned maintenance, fault finding, servicing and repairs. If you’re a practical, reliable engineer who enjoys diagnosing problems and getting machinery back up and running, we’d like to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out servicing, planned maintenance, inspections and repairs on plant and machinery.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults.
  • Carry out effective fault finding and identify the root cause of mechanical issues.
  • Complete repairs and maintenance to a high standard.
  • Carry out inspections and ensure machinery remains safe and fit for use.
  • Work safely and follow all company health and safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work where required.
  • Work independently while maintaining excellent standards of workmanship.
  • Support the wider workshop team when required.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is practical, dependable and confident working on a wide range of machinery. You should have:

  • Previous experience as a Plant Fitter, Heavy Plant Fitter, Mechanical Fitter, Agricultural Engineer, Plant Engineer or similar.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and practical engineering skills.
  • Good understanding of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic systems.
  • The ability to diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs.
  • Experience working with construction equipment, agricultural machinery, heavy plant, commercial vehicles or similar machinery.
  • A relevant mechanical qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a busy team.
