Heavy Vehicle Technician Apprentice - Wolverhampton

The investment will help accelerate the company’s expansion, strengthen its position in the market, and support continued investment in its workshop, technology, products, and people.

  • IMI Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance & Repair: Heavy Vehicle Apprenticeship

Training

You’ll attend block release training at GTG Training, a modern facility with industry-standard equipment, where expert trainers will help you develop your technical skills and knowledge.

A Typical Day

You'll be based in the workshop, learning all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance. This includes vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, major component overhauls, and electrical fault diagnostics. You'll cover units such as:

  • Materials, fabrication, tools, and measuring devices used in the commercial vehicle environment
  • Inspection of heavy vehicles
  • Diagnosing and rectifying chassis units, including pneumatic braking systems
  • Diagnosing and rectifying engine, transmission, and electrical system faults
  • Commissioning and decommissioning high voltage systems on battery electric vehicles
  • Ensuring health and safety standards
  • Contributing to workplace housekeeping

Requirements And Prospects

To complete the apprenticeship, you must pass Level 2 English and Maths (or have an exemption certificate) and work towards this level before the end-point assessment.
