About The Role
This apprenticeship is the level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician standard programme with Suez Recycling in Doncaster, DN3 1QR. As an apprentice, you will learn how to maintain and repair large commercial vehicles to the manufacturers' and DVSA standards.
As a Heavy Vehicle Technician Apprentice, you'll learn how to inspect, service and repair HGVs and other large commercial vehicles. Working alongside experienced technicians, you'll develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a qualified Heavy Vehicle Technician.
No two days are the same. From routine servicing to diagnosing faults using the latest technology, you'll gain hands-on experience while earning a wage and working towards a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification.
What You'll Be Doing
Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll learn how to:
- Carry out routine servicing and safety inspections
- Diagnose faults using modern diagnostic equipment
- Repair and replace mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components
- Complete regular maintenance to keep vehicles safe and roadworthy
- Understand DVSA standards, six-week inspections and Operator (O) Licence requirements
- Work safely using manufacturer procedures and industry best practice

Your apprenticeship combines practical experience with structured learning.
You'll Receive
- Hands-on training in the workplace alongside an experienced mentor
- Online learning during your working day, including workbooks, virtual classes and one-to-one support from your Development Coach
- Block release training every two months at the Inspiro Automotive Academy in Derby (DE24 8ST)
All travel, accommodation and meal costs for your block training are fully covered by SUEZ Recycling.
By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll have the skills, knowledge and experience needed to become a qualified Heavy Vehicle Technician and begin a rewarding career in the commercial vehicle industry.
From day one, you'll be a valued member of the team, earning a wage while gaining real hands-on experience. As your skills and confidence grow, you'll take on more responsibility and become an important part of the workshop.

Once you've completed your apprenticeship, you'll have the opportunity to continue developing your career, with progression into roles such as Senior Technician and beyond.
About The Training
Training is delivered in the workplace and on block release to the Inspiro Automotive Academy in Derby. There is a total of 16 x 1-week blocks over the 32-month programme. The costs of hotel accommodation, food and travel are met by the employer and there will be no cost to you.
You will also receive 1-2-1 support from your Development Coach to help you achieve:

With a fleet of diesel and all electric vehicles, their fully qualified HGV technicians are able to keep the country moving.
