As a Medical Laboratory Technician at IDEXX
You will be a key contributor at one of the largest veterinary diagnostic companies in the world, performing laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets across the UK. This is a one-year contract, full-time, with competitive benefits.
Why This Role Matters
The IDEXX Hematology team in Wetherby is dynamic, forward-thinking, and closely connected to the wider European IDEXX network. We process high-volume blood specimens for diagnostic evaluation by our Veterinary Pathologists, operating automated, top-of-the-range equipment to meet daily targets. Thanks to you, someone's very beloved pet will get the treatment plan they need.
In This Role
- You will use automated hematology analyzers, microscopes, and other diagnostic tools to perform CBCs, coagulation testing, and other analyses that support veterinarians in diagnosing illness and disease.
- You will prepare and evaluate blood, bone marrow, and body fluid samples, including manual differential cell counts and morphology assessment, flagging abnormal results for pathologist review.
- You will set up and run lab tests, and read and release results according to SOPs.
- From day one, you'll have full autonomy, with full support whenever you need it — as part of a team proud of helping vets diagnose pets and animals quickly.

- BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
- Lab experience is a plus; hematology or blood smear experience is an advantage but not essential — full training is provided.
- A positive, team-oriented attitude and comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Ability to follow SOPs, use computers for data entry, and multitask with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including standing or sitting for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and specific vision requirements (close, color, depth perception)
- This is a laboratory, so there is potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 06:00 – 17:30 (flexible start 6:00–8:00) for one month, then Tuesday – Saturday the following month (same weekday hours, Saturday hours are 07:00–15:30).
