Driver Hire Edinburgh City are currently recruiting experienced HGV Class 1 (C+E) Drivers for a variety of ad-hoc assignments with well-established clients across Edinburgh and the surrounding areas.
Whether you’re looking to pick up extra shifts, work around existing commitments or keep your options flexible, we have a range of Class 1 opportunities available.
🚛 The Role
Depending On The Assignment, Your Duties May Include
- Trunking and general haulage
- Palletised deliveries and collections
- Depot-to-depot work
- Deliveries to commercial and customer locations
- Multi-drop deliveries where required
- Loading and unloading where required
- Carrying out daily vehicle safety checks
- Ensuring loads are secure and transported safely
- Completing delivery paperwork accurately
- Following all relevant road transport legislation and health & safety procedures
- Providing a professional and reliable service to customers

🕒 Shift Patterns
- Ad-hoc shifts available
- Day shifts
- Back shifts
- Night shifts
- Weekday and weekend work
- Typical shift lengths of 8–12 hours
- Minimum 8 hours’ pay guaranteed per shift
- Shifts available depending on client requirements and your availability
💷 Pay Rates
PAYE
- £15.50 per hour
- £20.66 per hour after 8 hours
PAYE Advanced
- £17.37 per hour
- £23.15 per hour after 8 hours

✅ Requirements
- Valid UK Class 1 (Category C+E) licence
- Valid Driver CPC qualification
- Valid Digital Tachograph Card
- Previous Class 1 driving experience
- Maximum of 9 penalty points
- No DD, DR, CD or IN endorsements
- Reliable, professional and safety-conscious
- Good communication skills
- Flexible and willing to work different assignments
