Class 1 HGV Driver – Plant Hire

Bedford

£45,918 per annum / £16.82 per hour

Monday to Friday | 06:00–17:00 | 52.5 hours per week

We are recruiting for an experienced Class 1 HGV Driver to join a leading plant hire business at their Bedford depot.

This is a permanent, Monday-to-Friday position offering a salary of £45,918 per annum, with no weekend working as part of the standard working week.

Reporting to the Depot Manager, you’ll be responsible for the safe and efficient delivery and collection of plant machinery to customer sites. You’ll primarily be transporting equipment including telescopic handlers, rotating telehandlers and smart tanks, so previous experience within plant hire, construction or machinery transport would be a real advantage.

As one of the company’s representatives out on the road, you’ll also play an important part in delivering a professional and reliable service to customers.

The Role

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Delivering and collecting plant machinery safely and efficiently
  • Transporting equipment including telescopic handlers, rotating telehandlers and smart tanks
  • Ensuring machinery is loaded, secured and transported safely
  • Completing deliveries in line with scheduled times
  • Carrying out the necessary vehicle and equipment checks
  • Representing the business professionally when dealing with customers on site
  • Working closely with the depot team to respond to changing schedules and priorities
  • Maintaining high standards of safety and compliance at all times

What We’re Looking For

To be considered for the role, you’ll need:

  • A valid Category C+E / Class 1 HGV licence
  • A valid Driver Digital Tachograph Card
  • An up-to-date Driver CPC qualification, with proof of certification
  • No more than 3 points on your driving licence
  • A good understanding of plant and machinery
  • Previous experience transporting plant machinery would be highly advantageous
  • NPORS Loader Securer qualification would be preferred
  • Good customer service and communication skills
  • Good spoken and written English
  • A reliable, punctual and self-motivated approach
  • The ability to work independently while also being part of a wider depot team

You’ll need to be comfortable adapting to changing priorities and confident dealing with the day-to-day challenges that come with delivering machinery to busy customer sites.

This is a full-time, permanent position offering a consistent Monday-to-Friday working pattern.
