Job Opportunity: HGV Class 1 Drivers

Monday to Friday | £21.57ph (with Rolled-Up Holiday Pay) | 12:00 to 16:00 Start Times | Optional Saturdays paid at £23.53ph | No Handball!

Pure Staff's Driving Team are recruiting HGV Class 1 Drivers in Avonmouth, Bristol for consistent ongoing work with one of the UK's largest and longest-established logistics businesses, completing trunking and retail store deliveries for a major national retail customer. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Class 1 Drivers looking for a strong weekday rate, afternoon starts, and consistent work without the need for handball.

The operation offers plenty of different start times each day between 12:00 noon and 16:00, making this particularly suitable for drivers who prefer afternoon work rather than early-morning starts. The regular working pattern is Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday shifts available on an optional basis for drivers who want additional work.

Pay & Hours

Monday to Friday:

  • £21.57 per hour (with holiday pay rolled up)
  • £19.25 per hour (if you opt for holiday accrual which is paid when you book time off)
  • If you opt for holiday pay accrued separately it's worth an additional £2.32 per hour

Optional Saturdays:

  • £23.53 per hour (with holiday pay rolled up)
  • £21.00 per hour (if you opt for holiday accrual which is paid when you book time off)
  • If you opt for holiday pay accrued separately it's worth an additional £2.53 per hour

Your Typical Working Day

You'll be completing a mixture of HGV Class 1 trunking and retail store deliveries from the customer's Avonmouth operation. Typical duties include:

  • Afternoon starts between 12:00 and 16:00
  • Shifts averaging approximately 10 hours
  • HGV Class 1 trunking
  • Retail store deliveries
  • No handball
  • Strapping and securing loads
  • Completing thorough vehicle and load checks
  • Ensuring trailers and loads are correctly contained before leaving site
  • Completing delivery paperwork accurately
  • Following Drivers' Hours, Working Time, and site procedures

Important - Load Security. Load security is a critical requirement of this assignment. Drivers must correctly strap and contain their loads and complete all necessary checks before moving away from the loading bay or taking a trailer. The customer takes load security extremely seriously. Failure to follow the site's required load-security procedures could result in immediate removal from the assignment.

You'll be working with a major UK logistics business with a history stretching back more than 100 years. Today, the wider business operates a nationwide network of transport depots and warehouses and provides logistics solutions for hundreds of organisations across sectors including retail, food and drink, manufacturing, and specialist transport. This is a professional and established transport operation where driver safety, compliance, and load security are taken seriously.

What We're Looking For

To be considered for this HGV Class 1 Driver position you'll need:

  • A valid UK Category C+E / Class 1 Licence
  • A valid Driver CPC / DQC
  • A valid Digital Tachograph Card
  • Previous HGV Class 1 driving experience
  • No more than 6 penalty points on your licence
  • Confidence with strapping and securing loads
  • Good understanding of load security
  • Good knowledge of Drivers' Hours and Working Time regulations
  • A professional, reliable, and safety-conscious attitude

Previous retail store delivery, trunking, or general distribution experience would be advantageous.
