We are Hiring: Job Title: HGV Class 2 Refuse Driver – Bridport Depot
Location: Bridport, Dorset
Contract Type: Temporary
Start Date: Immediate Start (Induction required)
Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 06:00–14:00 (weekly allocated shifts may vary)
Pay Rate: £14.59 per hour (Bank Holiday: £29.18 per hour)
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
About the Role
Dorset Council is seeking an experienced HGV Class 2 Refuse Driver (Driver Level 3) to join the Waste and Recycling team based at the Bridport Depot. The role involves safely operating Category C (Class 2) refuse collection vehicles and supporting the collection of household, commercial, and recycling waste across the local area. You will work as part of a dedicated crew, delivering an essential public service while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities
- Safely drive and operate HGV Class 2 refuse collection vehicles in line with road safety legislation and council procedures.
- Complete daily vehicle checks and ensure vehicles are clean, safe, and roadworthy.
- Follow allocated collection routes for domestic, commercial, and recycling waste.
- Assist with waste collection duties, including loading bins and containers where required.
- Work collaboratively with crew members and supervisors to complete routes efficiently.
- Report missed collections, access issues, vehicle defects, or operational concerns.
- Maintain professional customer service standards while representing Dorset Council.

Essential Requirements
- Full Category C (Class 2) HGV Driving Licence.
- Valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
- Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
- Good knowledge of health and safety procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable, physically fit, and able to undertake manual handling duties.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will have previous experience driving HGV vehicles, preferably within waste collection, local authority, or similar operational environments. A strong focus on safety, reliability, and teamwork is essential.
