3-month contract role with a Local Authority

Summary

This is a 1-month contract role with Coventry City Council, aimed at providing a safe, reliable, and efficient driving service to support the Council's operational services. The role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of Class 2 vehicles, adhering to all relevant legislation and health and safety requirements. The post holder will be responsible for completing allocated routes and duties, conducting vehicle safety checks, and maintaining compliance with Council procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Safely drive and operate Class 2 HGV vehicles in accordance with road traffic legislation and Council policies.
  • Complete allocated daily routes and operational duties as directed by supervisors.
  • Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections and complete all required vehicle check documentation.
  • Report vehicle defects, damage, accidents, and incidents promptly using the appropriate procedures.
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained in a clean, safe, and roadworthy condition.

Requirements:

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience driving HGV Class 2 vehicles.
  • Experience operating in a safety-critical environment.
  • Experience working to schedules and meeting operational targets.
  • Experience carrying out vehicle safety checks and defect reporting.

Essential Qualifications

  • Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) Driving Licence.
  • Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
  • Valid Digital Tachograph Card (where required).
  • Ability to satisfy Coventry City Council's driver assessment process.

Additional Information

  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week, with a 4/5 day schedule from Monday or Tuesday to Friday, depending on the rota.
  • Overtime: 45 minutes per day for vehicle checks.
  • Location: Whitley Depot, Coventry, CV3 4AR.
  • Duration: Temporary basis, 3 months ongoing.
  • Number of Workers Required: 4.
  • Schedule: Bi-weekly rota communicated directly from Coventry to the worker, with the earliest start time expected at 6am or 7am depending on the weather.
  • PPE: Workers need their own safety boots; all other PPE will be provided by Coventry.
  • Application Process: CV submission, driver assessment, informal interview, followed by an offer.
