Job Title: Jet Vacuum Tanker Driver / Drainage Operative
Department: Operations
Location: Teesside & Nationwide (as required)
Reports To: Operations Manager / Contracts Manager / Senior Team Lead
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 16:00 (Overtime and Emergency Call-Out Required)
Job Purpose
To safely operate and maintain the company's Jet Vacuum Tanker, delivering high-quality drainage, environmental and industrial cleaning services to commercial, industrial, utility and domestic clients. The role requires a proactive individual who is committed to safety, customer service and delivering work to the highest professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Operation
- Safely operate Jet Vacuum Tankers (Class 2/Class 1)
- Drive in accordance with all DVSA regulations and company policies
- Complete daily vehicle defect inspections and report faults immediately
- Ensure vehicles remain clean, presentable and fully operational
- Manage fuel usage efficiently
Jet Vacuum Operations
- Operate specialist equipment including:
- High-pressure water jetting
- Vacuum excavation
- Gully emptying
- Interceptor cleaning
- Wet well cleaning
- Pump station cleaning
- Culvert cleaning
- Catchpit cleaning
- Flood response
- Tank cleaning
- Emergency spill response
- Silt removal
- Waste removal and transportation
- Pipeline cleaning
- Blockage clearance
Drainage Operations
- Carry out works including:
- Emergency drainage call-outs
- Planned maintenance
- Reactive drainage works
- Sewer cleansing
- Pipe desilting
- Root removal
- Surface water system maintenance
- Foul drainage maintenance
- Highway drainage cleaning
- Commercial drainage maintenance
Health & Safety
- Work safely in accordance with:
- Health & Safety at Work Act
- ISO 45001 Management System
- Company Safe Systems of Work
- Method Statements
- Risk Assessments
- Confined Space Procedures
- Environmental Procedures
- Responsibilities include:
- Wearing appropriate PPE
- Completing dynamic risk assessments
- Reporting accidents, incidents and near misses
- Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards
- Identifying unsafe conditions
- Protecting members of the public
- Following traffic management requirements

Customer Service
- Represent Butler Bros Drainage & Civils professionally by:
- Maintaining a smart appearance
- Communicating professionally with clients
- Providing updates to office staff
- Resolving issues professionally
- Protecting the company's reputation
- Promoting additional services where appropriate
Equipment Care
- Responsible for:
- Daily cleaning of the tanker
- Jetting hose inspections
- Vacuum hose inspections
- Tool maintenance
- Minor repairs
- Stock control
- Ensuring equipment is ready for deployment
Teamwork
- Work effectively with Drainage Operatives
- Support apprentices and trainees
- Assist other departments when required
- Participate in toolbox talks
- Attend training sessions
- Share knowledge and best practice
Essential Requirements
- Full UK Driving Licence
- HGV Class 2 (Category C) Licence
- Valid Driver CPC
- Digital Tachograph Card
- Good understanding of driver hours regulations
- Experience operating HGV vehicles
- Excellent communication skills
- Good physical fitness
- Flexible attitude to working hours
- Ability to work under pressure
- Strong commitment to safety
Desirable Qualifications
- Previous Jet Vacuum Tanker experience
- Drainage industry experience
- High Pressure Water Jetting Certificate
- Confined Space (Medium or High Risk)
- Street Works (NRSWA)
- First Aid at Work
- CSCS Card
- Manual Handling
- Banksman/Slinger
- Vacuum Excavation experience
- Waste industry experience

Salary & Benefits
Salary
- £15.00–£17.00 per hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Overtime Rates
- We recognise and reward flexibility and commitment with enhanced overtime rates.
- 1.5x hourly rate for all hours worked:
- Before 07:30 Monday to Friday
- After 16:00 Monday to Friday
- All day Saturday
- 2x hourly rate for:
- All hours worked on Sundays
- All hours worked on UK Bank Holidays
- 1.5x hourly rate for all hours worked:
