1 month contract with a Local Authority

HGV Driver – Waste Collection Services

Candidates must bring their Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card for inspection at interview.

Job Purpose

To operate waste collection vehicles safely and support the delivery of efficient waste and recycling collection services. Working alongside a Loader, the Driver will ensure collection rounds are completed safely, on time and in accordance with health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely drive and operate refuse collection (dustcart) vehicles.
  • Complete daily vehicle safety checks and report defects.
  • Follow and plan collection routes to ensure all collections are completed.
  • Assist with loading duties when required.
  • Work closely with Loaders and other team members to deliver an efficient service.
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies, including manual handling procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with driving regulations.
  • Provide a professional service when interacting with members of the public.
  • Work flexibly and beyond the contracted finish time of 2:00pm when operationally required.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience driving dustcarts or similar large commercial vehicles.
  • Experience working within waste management, environmental services or a related field.
  • Experience working as part of a team in an operational environment.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working for a Local Authority.
  • Experience with refuse collection and loading activities.
  • Driver Assistant experience.

Qualifications & Licences

Essential

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Category C (Class 2) Licence.
  • Valid Driver CPC.
  • Valid Digital Tachograph Card.

Desirable

  • Manual Handling qualification (training can be provided).
  • Health & Safety certification.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of safe driving practices.
  • Good route planning and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a small, established team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible and reliable approach to work.
  • Physically fit and able to undertake loading duties when required.

Additional Information

  • Pay Rate: £24.15 per hour (Limited/Umbrella).
  • Hours: 36 hours per week.
  • Location: Unit 4, Sandgate Industrial Estate, 57 Sandgate Street, Southwark, Surrey, SE15 1LE, United Kingdom.
  • Manual Handling training will be provided.
  • Driver Assistant training can be provided where required.
  • Candidates must be flexible and prepared to work beyond the contracted finish time of 2:00pm to ensure collection rounds are completed.
  • Interviews will take place at the above location and will last approximately 30 minutes.
  • Candidates must bring their Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card for inspection at interview.
  • We operate on a bi-weekly payment schedule.
  • Closing date: 1st July – early applications are encouraged.
